Professional Background:
Dr Baker's 33-year career encompasses a decade of full-time academic endeavor at the University of Nebraska Medical College. For 23 years he committed his career to working as the Director of Behavioral Medicine at the National Center for Preventative and Stress Medicine in Phoenix, Arizona and then the last 20 years at the world famed Canyon Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. He is the founding Director of the Canyon Ranches "Life Enhancement Program" as well as a founding professional in the "Health and Healing Center," an integrative health program. His passion is in family owned business development.
Academic credentials include a postdoctoral fellow in Medical Psychology, with an emphasis in stress and cardio-vascular disease (which brought him to work directly with high level executives and corporate organizations). He holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, an MA in Counseling and Rehabilitative Psychology from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. His BS cum laude was earned at Pershing College in Beatrice Nebraska. He has held adjunct appointments at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona as well as facilitated a Family Business Program at Harvard University.
Professional credentials include membership in the American Psychological Association, certifications in Mediation, and assessing Emotional Intelligence. He is fully credentialed as an executive coach. He is strongly involved and committed to the recent initiative of Positive Psychology; a scientific search for what is right with human beings, their organizations and institutions.
He co-authored with Cameron Stauth a best selling book, "What Happy People Know: How The New Science of Happiness Can Change Your Life For The Better" by Rodale Press, 2003. His most recent effort involves, "What Happy Companies Know" with co-authors Cathy Greenberg Ph.D. and Collins Hemingway by Prentice Hall, Wharton Business Books, 2006 and "What Happy Women Know" with Cathy Greenberg, PhD, 2007. Cathy is taking h2c and the "What Happy Know Brand, LLC" into the future with "What Happy Working Mother's Know" and " What Happy Leaders Know".
Now living in Nebraska, his pursuits include investing time with his spouse, six children and grandchildren. He enjoys the outdoors, especially fly-fishing, bird dog training and upland and waterfowl hunting.
